As all of customers know, your Brownstone Insurance policy includes equipment breakdown coverage. Equipment breakdown insurance covers the accidental breakdown of covered machinery and equipment caused by things like power surges, mechanical breakdown and boiler failure. This coverage is offered by Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, and there are some changes to the inspection procedure for boilers that you need to be aware of.
Effective May 1st, the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety will be solely responsible for the issuance of all Certificates of Inspection for boilers and pressure vessels. This will include a new $50 fee for each certificate object inspected and made payable by you, to the Department of Public Safety.
You are probably accustomed to receiving your certificate immediately upon inspection with no fees. Under this new procedure however, the certificate will be mailed to you by the DPS after any violations are cleared and the new $50 fee is paid to them. This fee is being charged and mandated by the state, not by Hartford Steam Boiler or Brownstone Insurance.
