Massachusetts officials are urging residents who are able, to ditch their car for a week and get around by biking, walking, carpooling and public transportation instead.
Dubbed "Car-Free Week," which runs through Saturday, September 24th, the effort was put into place by officials wanting to raise awareness of environmental benefits of reducing the number of vehicles on the road.
This special week coincides with an effort in Europe marked for September 22nd known as "World Car-Free Day."
Supporters of these efforts note that there are significant financial, community-oriented and health benefits related to having fewer cars on the road.
