Underground Garage Mishap Responsible for Water Leak/Evacuation of Boston High-Rise

sprinklerMore than 100 people were forced to evacuate their homes inside the Metropolitan building in Boston on September 1st due to a major water leak.

The Boston Fire Department determined that a car with a mattress tied to its roof hit a sprinkler head in the basement garage which set off the entire sprinkler system.

The 23-story building on Nassau Street has both condos and apartments, and at least 20 units were said to be destroyed by the water damage. Initial damage was estimated to be between $500,000 to $750,000.

Building managers were working to help tenants find temporary housing after the event.
