Generation Y has been categorized in the following way: desire to do meaningful work, entrepreneurial spirit, communication skills, ingrained knowledge of technology, and a positive group mentality. These are values that help individuals thrive in the independent agency environment. Couple this with the economic turmoil of the last few years and more recent college grads are exploring the insurance industry as a career option.

A few of us worked on building those friendships while giving back to the community this week at theMAIA Young Agents CommitteeRight to left: Melissa Murphy, Andrew Gregory (Thomas Gregory Agency), Steve Monaco (Granite Insurance), AJ Marchionne (Marchionne Insurance Agency), Ryan Parker (Charles G. Jordan Insurance), Pat Dempsey (Dempsey Insurance Agency), Kevin Gallant (Gallant Insurance Agency), Steve Palenscar (Faley & Palenscar Insurance). Greater Boston Food Bank. We had a great time and look forward to coordinating similar outings in the future with more of our Massachusetts Young Agents.

As the YAC Staff Liaison, I have had the pleasure of getting to know this group in the last few months and I’m excited about the momentum they have going and plans we’ve been working on for this year and next.

Want to be involved? Young Agents and those interested in starting a career in the insurance industry are invited to the first YAC After-Hours Networking Event on Thursday, June 16th from 5:30pm - 8:00pm at Bar Louie @ Patriot's Place, Foxboro, MA. RSVP here.
