Did you miss our first Facebook Live Chat? No worries! Here is the dialogue from our very first Facebook Live Chat event which took place on September 9th with insurance expert, Amy O'Donnell.
Joey Pinto - Are my personal belongings protected by my condo buildings insurance? Or do I need my own insurance?
Amy O'Donnell - Hi Joey ! You will need to purchase your own insurance for your contents or personal belongings. This type of policy is called an HO-6.
Lisa Mello - I might serve on the board of the condo I just moved into. Is there anything I need to know before I decide to or not?
Amy O'Donnell - Hello Lisa, You should make sure that your association has Directors & Officers Coverage for the board members. If your referring to any type of legal matter, you should consult an attorney. Are you referring to anything specific?
Lisa Mello - Oh thanks Amy! I'm just not really familiar with the legal consequences of taking a position on the board and I want to make sure I can't be held liable if anything goes wrong. Would that be what the Directors and Officers coverage is for?
Amy O'Donnell - If a liability suit is brought against someone on the board, this is the coverage needed. Most associations have it. I would just suggest you make sure you do as well. Thanks !
Lisa Mello - Ok that clears things up a bit. I will def ask if they have this before I join. Thanx
Amy O'Donnell - Good luck and thanks for the question!
Jerry O'Neil - Is my apartment building liable if my AC unit leaks and ruins my carpet?
Amy O'Donnell - Good Afternoon Jerry. This is usually specified in a lease agreement. All losses are also subject to the property deductible.
Robert Soares - Are my personal belongings covered by the insurance my building has?
Amy O'Donnell - Hello Robert, The master policy covers the structure only. Each unit owner needs to purchase their own insurance. This type of policy is called an HO-6. The HO-6 is designed to cover your personal belongings.
Kaylee Sylvia - Do you guys offer renter's insurance?
Amy O'Donnell - Yes we do Kaylee. You can get a quote right over the phone. Please contact Jaime in our office at 617-236-6400 X 114. Thank You!
Kaylee Sylvia - Awesome thanks.
